What real PayPal messages look like

  • PayPal always addresses you by your full first and last name (or business name)
  • Official emails come from @paypal.com or @mail.paypal.com
  • PayPal will never send attachments or software updates in an email
  • They will never ask you to call a phone number in an alert

Common spoof patterns

  • "Your account has been limited" phishing driving you to a fake login portal
  • "Suspicious activity on your account" alerts intended to create urgency
  • Fake "Payment received" or "Invoiced" notifications for items you did not buy
